Hello 2026!

2026 is here! A great time to look forward. I recently attended a SCBWI Eastern NY Shoptalk that made me think about my goals for the year in a new way. We were asked three questions.

  • How would you like to FEEL in 2026?
  • What RELATIONSHIPS do you want to foster, shed, or begin?
  • What do you want to add to your ROUTINE?
These were great questions to consider about my personal life, as well as my professional life.

When I met up with some critique friends this week, I was reminded of the practice of choosing one word for the year, and using that word to lead your thinking and actions. I have yet to come up with my word. Do you do this? If so, what's your word?

Today I'm meeting up with another group of writer friends and we're planning on chatting about our goals for 2026. I can't wait to hear what their thoughts are for the year.

So far, I've plunged into actions that, I hope, will sync with my own personal goals. The first is repositioning my social media apps on my phone so that they are now in a folder on the second page, setting up a multi-step process for logging into those apps.  No easy scrolling for me in 2026!

I've also spoken to my SCBWI team about stepping up again as a volunteer for my region by organizing a book club.

In 2025, I was appointed to my public library's advisory council  -- that work continues.

And, of course, there are writing goals. More research. More words on the page. Hopefully, all leading to more books on the shelf.

Personal goals are numerous. Most are based on my desire to keep learning, exploring, and being healthy.

Share your plans with me. I'd love to hear them! Let's make 2026 a great year.
